Should I take the SAT or the ACT?
All colleges and universities across the country will accept either the SAT or the ACT as a college entrance test. Statistics say that one-third of students perform better on the ACT, one-third performs better on the SAT and one-third perform equivalent on the SAT & ACT. --When should I take them and how many times? You should take each at least once between the winter and early summer of your junior year, preferably twice, depending on one’s scores, aptitude and preparation. There is always an October SAT and ACT test that you can take and still meet most college application deadlines. You can apply to colleges and send scores later if needed. For juniors, I recommend taking the January, March &/or June SAT.--Do I need to take any SAT II (subject tests) to go to college? Most colleges do not require SAT IIs, but some do. The best time to take an SAT II is immediately after you have completed the high school course that covers the testing material whether that is your sophomore or junior year; you can take them during your senior year. Check college websites for the entrance requirements to see if SAT IIs are required.
