Welcome to Covenant Day Lower School!
The lower school years are a time of building core competencies in the hearts and minds of the children whom God has entrusted to our care. We partner with families to provide an excellent education that educates the whole child through a strong academic program while providing a healthy and balanced daily routine. We want each day to bring fresh insight into the wonders of God's creation.
God has provided qualified, talented, creative, and loving teachers in our lower school. Our teachers integrate biblical thought into the various areas of study, and they utilize Scripture to reveal God's nature, our condition, and the importance of our relationship with Him. During the course of the lower school experience, students are taught the Bible, the Children's Catechism, and they are given the opportunity to worship as a collective body through weekly chapels. Teachers seek to show students how to see things through the lens of Scripture, and they weave who God is and how He works into the study of language arts, math, Bible, science, social studies, music, art, Spanish, physical education, and other subjects. CDS is fully accredited by both SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) and CSI (Christian Schools International).
Because the training that occurs in the lower school years forms the foundation for all that is to follow, we strive to educate with excellence. Our teachers are committed Christians who have been trained professionally, are licensed or pursuing licensure if new, and are afforded multiple opportunities to continue their professional development. They collaborate as grade level teams to offer superb classroom instruction.

In addition to the core disciplines of language arts, math, science, social studies, and Bible, there are also special classes in music, art, Spanish, physical education, computers, and library. In fourth and fifth grade, we offer enrichment classes to provide exploration of students' personal interest and giftedness in areas such as Latin introduction, newspaper, running club, critical thinking skills, book club, chess, volleyball, computer technology, handbells and others.
For students with special academic needs, there is a resource room available to provide testing, tutoring, conferencing, drill and practice, and short term educational assistance tools. In addition, the school offers trained therapists to work with individual students who have diagnosed learning differences.
CDS lower school is a place where children are nurtured as they grow academically and spiritually. We invite you to come and learn more about the lower school at Covenant Day School!
